Embrace the Movement

Entire galaxies race through the universe towards the unknown. The Milky Way flies at an astounding 1.6 million miles per hour (2.1 million km/hr) towards a cluster of galaxies far in the distance. Our solar system orbits the center of the Milky Way at 483,000 miles per hour (792,000 km/hr). Earth races around the sun in yearly rotation at 66,000MPH (107,000 km/hr) and spins on it’s axis at 1000MPH (1600 km/hr). Our surroundings in this vast universe change every day, every hour, every minute, every second.

Clouds and storms race through the Earth’s sky. The oceans shift waters from one corner of the planet to another. Even the continents move; forming mountains and valleys and craters. Volcanoes explode. Trees grow. Rocks fall. The earth’s landscape changes before your very eyes. All the time.

Your own body is constantly on the move. Growing, shrinking, strengthening, weakening, aging. As you sit here, you yourself, do not remain the same from one minute to the next.

The reason I am telling you all of this…nothing is as it was. Not even a moment ago. Nothing ever just stays the same.

There are a lot of people out there looking to be settled. Looking to have this place that they get to in life. This plateau they reach. Where everything is good. Where nothing changes. Where they can essentially just be frozen.

But that’s not how life works. It’s constantly moving. Constantly shifting. Constantly changing. There is no still life.

If you think your life will be settled when you are married, then you have never been married. If you think your life will be settled when you have kids, then I beg you to spend even just an hour with a family. If you think your life will be settled when you get some great job, you’re wrong. Great jobs involve passion, and bosses, and clients, and good quarters, and bad quarters, and a million other moving parts. That’s not settled. Your life is not even settled in retirement. I have observed. It’s not.

Sure there are times in your life when things are more calm. And while obviously that’s much different than the storms, do not confuse the calm with being settled. It’s not. Things are constantly in motion.

And do not confuse the highs and lows of life with life just being just cyclical.

A lot of people say that…‘life is cyclical.’ I’ve said it myself, I think on this blog a few times. But it’s not really true. The universe has taught me something. Just as we on earth are orbiting the sun and the solar system is orbiting the center of our galaxy, yet racing into unchartered territory in the universe at the same time. Life is both cyclical and ever moving forward into unchartered territory at the same time.

Yes we see the same things come back around. But we are in a different place when we see them.

Life is always changing. Even when something happens to you in the same exact way that it occurred to you before, you are not the same person when it happens. You couldn’t possibly be.

Change. It’s just not on the horizon. It’s already happening. Always. Ready yourself for it. You have no other choice…learn to love it. Embrace the movement.
